Writing
In writing class, your child is taught grammar skills that can enhance his/her writing. Your child will also focus on writing traits, such as tone and voice, to help make improvements to his/her writing. In 6th grade, we write personal narrative essays, persuasive essays, text dependent essays, and poetry.
In 6th grade students learn how to write "text-dependent analysis (TDA) essays." Students are asked to dig back in the text for evidence and use that evidence to demonstrate meaning for their answer. TDA essay includes: 1. Introduction (state the title, restate part of the question) 2. Body Paragraph (evidence and demonstration of meaning) 3. Conclusion (restate the introduction in different words) A TDA question will show up on their Nebraska state assessment in the spring. Because of this, it is crucial that we spend an adequate amount of time on this type of writing. Your child will be a text evidence detective as a 6th grader! My classroom also utilizes Chromebooks as much as possible to type as part of the writing process. I use Google Classroom to make commenting on student papers quick and easy. Google Classroom also makes sharing with classmates possible, so students can peer edit with ease. The greatest thing about Google Classroom is students can access it from home and show you their AMAZING work! |
